Sorrow will not endure

Ode 179 from Hafez

رسید مژده که ایام غم نخواهد ماند
Glad tidings have arrived saying: this time of sorrow will not endure
چنان نماند چنین نیز هم نخواهد ماند
Sorrow has never remained forever, it will not endure
من ار چه در نظر یار خاکسار شدم
Although I have become lowly as dust in the eyes of the Friend
رقیب نیز چنین محترم نخواهد ماند
My rival's credibility will not endure
چو پرده دار به شمشیر میزند همه را
A guard who cuts down all intruders to the holy place
کسی مقیم حریم حرم نخواهد ماند
The residency of intruders in holy place will not endure
چه جای شکر و شکایت ز نقش نیک و بد است
There is no room for complaints or gratitude regardless of ill or good deeds
چو بر صحیفه هستی رقم نخواهد ماند
For upon this page of existence, numbers will not endure
سرود مجلس جمشید گفته اند این بود
It is said that the anthem of the world sovereign Jamshid was thus
که جام باده بیاور که جم نخواهد ماند
Bring the cup of wine for the world will not endure
غنیمتی شمر ای شمع وصل پروانه
Candle, give thanks for union with the moth
که این معامله تا صبحدم نخواهد ماند
for this encounter, till morning, will not endure
توانگرا دل درویش خود به دست آور

Captivate the heart of the meek, affluent one
که مخزن زر و گنج درم نخواهد ماند

For the chest of gold and treasures will not endure 

بدین رواق زبرجد نوشتهاند به زر

So have they written in gold
که جز نکویی اهل کرم نخواهد ماند

Except the kindness of the forgiving, nothing will endure
ز مهربانی جانان طمع مبر حافظ

Hafez don't covet the attention of the beautiful ones
که نقش جور و نشان ستم نخواهد ماند

For the signs of injustice and the marks of oppression will not endure
